Renee Collins Takes her First Dare!

For my first dare, I knew I wanted to introduce you all to my book. So, when I saw this one from Leigh Smith: "Draw pictures depicting a pivotal scene in your book, story-board style. Preferably with crayons and colored pencils," it seemed like a fun and easy way to tell you all a little about my story.

I forgot one minor problem: I don't draw. Actually, I was a very talented artist for my age when I was twelve. Alas. I didn't advance beyond that point. Ah well. I offer to you my humble stick figures today and a scene from my debut novel, RELIC. Enjoy! (And feel free to laugh at my art skills. I know I did.)

  1. Cute! I love seeing people's drawings as I draw myself (not very good though). For some reason, I can draw anime but can't manage stick figures. Yes, I know, major fail.

Good luck with your debut, Ms. Renee :D

  2. Okay, this was brilliant.

The colors! The action! THE EVIL CLIFFHANGER!

*snickers with glee because she knows what happens next*

I think you should consider a graphic novel version of your book :)

  3. I thought you said you *didn't* know how to draw. Those are the best "stick figures" I've ever seen. And I love the story! :) Super cute.

  5. Seriously, what Kasie and Jenn said. These stick figures make mine look a blind-folded toddler drew them. Thumbs up all around :D

  6. Wow! Thanks so much for taking my dare! You rocked it! Those drawings weren't near as embarassing as I thought they'd be (which is to say: not embarrassing at all). Bravo and poor horsey!!! Color me intrigued. You're book sounds amazing!

  8. Um, you call those stick figures?? When I make stick figures, they actually resemble sticks. This is magnificent art! And such a fabulous cliffhanger! Love it!! :)

  10. Um, if you can't draw I'm VERY confused by what I just saw up there? I expected LITERAL STICK FIGURES, woman. Loved your first dare. :)

  11. Renee, this is awesome! I love the rock devils. I kind of want one on a t-shirt. And yeah, what's up with the whole "I can't draw" thing?

  12. haha, thanks everyone! I guess when I said I can't draw, I meant I can't draw anything but stick figures. And really, what kind of a talent is that? ;) But hey, if you ever hear of anyone needed a stick figure artist, send them my way.

  14. The emotion that you were able to convey in that last cell, with your MC all googly-eyed and screaming noooooo! and her hair all flowing outward.... OMG, Renee. You are going to be hearing from Pixar, for sure.

Rock monster?! There's a rock monster in your book?! MY GOD. Get that in my hands this instant. LOVE.

  15. I want to second...poor horsey. I hate it when horses get hurt. I'm calling PETA.

  16. Not to be mistaken with Peeta. If I could, I'd call him too.
