Sara Walsh Takes The Truth AND The Dare

This week April Tucholke dared Sara Walsh, author of The Dark Light (out Aug. 28, 2012), to serve herself afternoon tea in a public place--but Sara went and upped the game by also taking Elodie's truth: What book did you secretly read and enjoy? Here we go:

Sara Walsh is an expat Brit and author of The Dark Light, a YA fantasy that debuts August 28, 2012, from Simon Pulse/Simon & Schuster. When not writing (rarely), Sara is usually reading, drowning in tea, or frolicking around town with the world's cutest St. Bernard. You can follow Sara on Twitter @saraleighwalsh.

The Dark Light
is available for pre-order here and here, or you can add it to your shelves at Goodreads.

Next up: Kasie West. Send her truths and dares. If you are a published (or soon to be published) author, sign up to guest post with us.

  1. Oh, Sara, you are AMAZING! I looove this...how can you be so cute and elegant at the same time??? Plus, I'd kill for your accent! Now no tea party inside will ever do.

  2. I can't even look at the cover, let alone read that book. I'd be way too scared and I'm.....well, let's just say I'm older than 15. So I can't imagine what it would've been like to read that as a 14/15 year old. Yikes. :) I like your advice though--listen to your dad. Ha! Good advice. Thanks for joining us today.

  3. This was awesome! I loved the tea party in the park (I would totally do that) and your description of being so utterly terrified by The Exorcist was wonderful. It really is amazing how completely and utterly we can get taken over by books. What a great interpretation of the question!

  4. Thank you, guys. It was a lot of fun. And I was dreadful about reading scary things in my teens--anything I could get my hands on!

Thanks so much for having me over to play. It was a blast.

    1. Sara, I flipped through the Exorcist when I was younger, and had to stop because it freaked me out too much! (I blame my mom, I was scarred forever after she let me watch it at 5, haha) Also, Stephen King's Salem's Lot scared me so much, I sent it to my dad afterward. I couldn't stand seeing it on my shelf anymore!

    2. Elsie, Salem's Lot was one of my favourites. I have stories about that book, too. And the original TV movie (showing my age)that I saw on vacation in a country cottage in the middle of a forest. Slept with the drapes closed last night convinced I could hear fingernails at the windows! Such a glutton for punishment.

    3. Glutton for punishment, horror-style? Hmmm.... Elsie, Sara--it sounds like the three of us need to meet on my prairie farm, and duke it out in the treehouse. We each get one flashlight, one sleeping bag, and one King. Who will run, first?

  5. You're so cute, Sara! This video makes me want to go have a tea party in the park and talk about the power of books...I think you may have just started a fad. ;-)

    1. Thank you! That's a fad I could totally get on board with. I only wish we could have shared the cakes.

  6. This was awesome, Sara. Tea and The Exorcist. Now that's a beautiful combination.

So my dad built this huge treehouse for me and my siblings. Huge. It had a secret passageway. And a bridge. And a tower. This is where I would leave King's IT, so Pennywise couldn't crawl out of the pages and get me when I was sleeping. I didn't really want that scary frakkin clown in the treehouse, either, but I figured it was better than my bedroom.

    1. See, now I hugely jealous. That treehouse sounds amazing! I would have been in there with my flashlight reading IT! But, yeah. Pennywise freaked me out too. Very creepy. It's a wonder we're all sane :)

    2. Oh. My. God. Reading IT, at night, alone, in a treehouse? The Fort (which is what us kids called this mega treehouse) was buried back in the trees on our farm, pretty far from the house. We would dare people to spend the night out there, and they NEVER made it all the way through.

    3. Oh, IT still freaks me out, and I've read it tons of times! For a long time, I kept thinking of balloons whenever I went to the library. And clowns ARE evil. We totally need to have a fort party...with King books...and tea and cake!

  7. That was an awesome vlog! Loved it! And I admit to watching the Exorcist and not being able to finish it because I was so scared out of my mind! shudder...
