Erin Bowman Takes the Truth

It's that time again -- truth or dare time! Elodie had asked: Who is your secret crush from YA lit? Well, Elodie, you may have gotten more than you bargained for because I have far more than one. I'll let the vlog take it from here:

Huge props to Elodie for such a great question! As a thank you, I'm giving you a $13 amazon or B&N giftcard (your choice) so that you can buy one of these novels and fall in love with the characters just like I did! Just email me via our Thirteeners account -- fridaythethirteeners[at]gmail[dot]com -- so I know where to send your prize.

And to everyone else: Perhaps you would like to submit some more truth and dares for us? In the video I said we'd answer one next week, but I actually lied. It will be TWO weeks before you see another truth and dare because next week is Friday the 13th! We have a special post planned (complete with giveaway items!) so be sure to check back!

  1. "The be-all end-all of book crushes" Yes! I completely agree with you, everyone in THG is SO real and crush-worthy. And PO! Oh my goodness Po. Love.

Can't wait to see what you're up to for the real Friday the 13!

    1. Ha. I think I said "end-all, be-all." Is that backwards? Have I been saying this wrong my entire life? *shakes head*

But yeah, HG = character love to the max. <3

  2. Haha, love this vlog. I have SO many YA crushes, but you managed to name a few of mine here. May I say you have exceptional taste? ;-)

    1. You most certainly CAN say that I have exceptional taste. Of course, if you think this of me, it must mean you have exceptional taste as well. ;)

  3. So who would win in a fight between Sean and Perry? Why? Show your work.

    1. Oh gosh. Do you mean in a real fight or in a fight for my heart? Because a real fight, I'm pretty sure Perry would win. But for my heart, that's a tough one. Sean and Perry are probably my two biggest crushes in a very long time. (Po's up there, too!)

    2. April, what is it with you and fights?!

    3. Seriously. Everyone watch out for April. ;)

    4. Yeah, what IS it with me and fighting? Maybe the pacifist part of my brain was damaged in that blond on blond hair pulling field fight from my teendom.

Erin--I agree. Perry would win in a fistfight. He took out those cannibals so hard in UTNS. As far as your heart is concerned, though....

  4. Ditto to pretty much all of those. By the way, I started reading Cold Kiss and so far I love it. So my biggest YA crushes (aside from Peeta, who I would marry if he were real) are Cameron Quick from Sara Zarr's Sweethearts and Augustus Waters from TFIOS. I love those two boys fiercely.

    1. Cameron Quick!!! I forgot about him, but yes -- love that boy!

  5. Sean Kendrick was kind of awesome. Not for me, but I see it. ;) (LOVE the ending. So good.)
    GRED AND FORGE. YES.
PO. Yes. When I read the question, I thought of my bookshelf and who I would choose, from the books I own. And he was my first choice.
Yay! Hunger Games! If you could only pick one guy from the entire series, who? I would be caught between Cato, Gale, Finnick, and Seneca Crane's Beard. (First and last choices based on the movie, second and third based on the books.)

    Awesome video! Great work =D

    1. Seneca Crane's beard has taken on a life of its own. Oh, pop culture!!

And yeah, Po. Man, all this talk of Po is making me want to reread Graceling.

  6. So many great picks here! I have to say that my favourites (you mentioned these guys too) are Peeta, Po, and Cricket. Love them so much! And, of course, Four from DIVERGENT. Great characters all around :)

    1. Four was a great one! I didn't fall head over heels for him, but he was without a doubt a sweetheart!

  7. Erin, this was great! And I haven't read a few of those yet, so I'll definitely be picking them up.

Peeta, yes. Gale, yes. But Sean Kendrick is my FAVORITE! Oh, swoon.

  8. Erin! I love your vlogs!!
I'm writing this comment as I'm watching..
    SEAN KENDRICKKKK <3333
GRIGGS needs to be in my life forever.
OMG gred and forge. PO. (maybe cricket, but come on.. Etienne!!).
You're kind of making me dying to read about Perri..
ADAM WILDE holy CRUD I love him.
    CAS! HIS KNIFE! omg yes.

I very much approve of your taste in YA boys, and my apologies for such a squee-filled comment! ahhaha I'll add Tom Mackee from The PIper's Son by Melina Marchetta to that list, along with some Sarah Dessen boys (can i have all of them?). And Todd from The knife of never letting go too!

    1. Squee-filled comments are most certainly allowed when it comes to YA crushes ;)

I still haven't read PIPER'S SON, but I've heard it's lovely. I also need to read Marchetta's FINNIKIN, because after all the gushing my friends have done regarding that book, I have a feeling I'll get another crush out of it :)

  9. OMG!! I love Fred, George, Sean, and Adam too!!!!

  10. I can't even respond to this vlog because there were TOO MANY swoon-worthy characters. But omg, SEAN KENDRICK and PO and GALE and PEETA and FINNICK!!! I always say I'm Team Gale, but really, I always tell people Finnick is my favorite person in the series. Haha. Ah, but I also love Cinna to pieces! Okay, I love that you mentioned Roar for Under the Never Sky because I liked Perry but the second Roar showed up, I was like !!! WHO ARE YOU, MYSTERIOUS AWESOME FRIEND? :)

Loved that you brought Harry Potter into this. The Weasley twins are fantastic - so funny, so mischievous, so awesome. BUT my literary crushes from HP have to be from the original Hogwarts mischief makers, the Marauders! Specifically, I'm totally in love with Professor Lupin and crushing on Sirius Black. <3

Too many CAPS, but it didn't take long for me to fall for Cas - but I'm also a huge Supernatural fan, and he just reminded me so much of that kind of bravery and humor (aside from the ghost hunting). I'm sure you see it too now that you're watching SPN. :)

I'm reading Cold Kiss right now, and I totally see what you mean about Danny Greer. I don't think I'm going to be crushing on him, but it's a lovely book so far.

    Also, TEAM KATNISS ftw!!!

    1. When I started watching Supernatural, I totally had flashbacks to Cas and ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD! (And yeah, Roar is a totally awesome mysterious friend.)

  11. Nice! I just got a whole new list of books to read based on their boys. Ha! This was an awesome truth. And great vlog, Erin. I'm trying to think of some of my book crushes.

    Jag from POSSESSION
Jace from The Immortal Instrument Series
    Both boys in EVERNEATH (yum)

I'm sure there are way more. It's morning and I can't think properly. :)

    1. The MORTAL Instrument series. Not the Immortal. I must've been thinking of Jace and how he seems so God like. :)

    2. I *still* haven't read the Mortal Instrument series. I need to get on those.

  12. WOW THANK YOU! :D
(I wrote a super long answer yesterday but for some reason pff it disappeared - must be magic in the air :D)
When I saw my name here on Friday, I did a *happy dance*.

For the crushes, I love love love Sean, a man of few words but so loyal! Cricket is also quite wonderful and just like you reminds me a litte of my hubby (aka The Chemical Engineer) Etienne does too :D Stephanie Perkins has just a magical touch when it comes to boys...

I totally understand your girl crush on Lola and on Katniss :D

I have COLD KISS on my TBR but I am now moving up...just like GRACELING (which I still haven´t read)

I´m reading JELLICOE ROAD this month - can´t wait, after Katy´s review and yours, it must be quite something!

    :D Thanks again!

    1. Elodie -- you will LOOOOVE Graceling and Jellicoe. Those are two of my most favorites ever. And yes, Stephanie Perkins really does have a way with writing swoon-worthy characters.

Thanks again for submitting this wonderful truth. (I saw your email come in to the Thirteeners account the other day and will respond to you shortly!)
