See, here at Friday the Thirteeners, we talk about books. We talk about writing. And sometimes, apparently, we share really really embarrassing things. But that's kind of writing related too--because all that shame and humiliation = EXCELLENT FODDER FOR WRITING ANGSTY SCENES. And thanks to Jaye Robin Brown's lovely dare, I now have PLENTY of angst to draw on.
I really have no words for what you're going to learn about me--except maybe:
BLAME JAYE!
Yeah...
BLAME JAYE!
Yeah...
Thanks a LOT, Jaye!
No really, THANK YOU. We really do appreciate people who submit truths or dares--this blog would be rather boring without it. (so if you're reading this, please, feel free to go HERE and submit some. I mean really, how often do you get a chance to torture a group of YA authors, huh? HUH?) And to reward you for your efforts, Jaye, I'm going to give you a $13 amazon or B&N giftcard (your choice). Just email me at SWMessenger (at) hotmail (dot) com so I know where to send your prize.
That's all for me for now--I won't be back for a few weeks. But make sure you stop by this Friday to watch another of us

Shannon Messenger graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where she learned--among other things--that she liked watching movies much better than making them. So she left LA and moved to suburbia where she would have time to eat too many cupcakes, own too many cats, and write lots and lots of books. LET THE SKY FALL is her first young adult novel, coming in Spring 2013 from Simon Pulse. She is also the author of KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES, book one in a middle grade series launching Fall 2012 (S&S Aladdin). Find her online at shannonmessenger.com.
I think you were blushing the entire time. Lol
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY WAS!!! It was so hard concentrating as I was talking because in the back of my mind I kept thinking: I can't believe I'm telling people this! :)
DeleteIt's just another thing we have in common. My crush was and always will be Gwen Stefani, so it's obvious the two of them need to break up, and hang with us instead.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA--that is hilarious that we crushed on both sides of that power couple!
DeleteWho didn't have a crush on Gavin Rossdale??? Although Stephen Jenkins from Third Eye Blind had a special place in my heart (though he looks awwwwful now. Sadness.)
ReplyDeleteAw, yeah, time has not done Stephen Well. Gavin still looks pretty good--though after the sweaty hand incident it's safe to say that I'm COMPLETELY over him. ;)
DeleteShannon, I love how you still have the drawings! That last one *is* especially good, btw!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you. And lol--I couldn't throw the drawings away, they were too hilarious. :)
DeleteThose are good drawings. You should totally send them to Gavin.
ReplyDeleteHA! Yeah, I'm pretty sure that would earn me that restraining order. ;)
DeleteYay for Shannon! I think talking about high school crushes is good therapy. And it's free. ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I suppose that's true. Though I can't say I want to do it again. ;)
DeleteHa ha ha. Love it! I didn't have a crush on a rock star in high school (only movie stars) but I have a crush on a rock star now (I love you, Adam Levine).
ReplyDeleteOoo, movie star crushes??? I think we MAY need to find a way to force those out of you, Kasie. :)
DeleteI think it's great that you kept all the drawings!
ReplyDeleteHa--thanks. They were far too funny to throw away. :)
DeleteHa ha! You are always such a good sport, #1. :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL. It's funny how little this kind of humiliation even phases me these days. I'm getting so USED to it. ;)
DeleteOh come on now! You know you loved that *grins evil grin*! And as a high school art teacher, I'd say you were right where you needed to be. You even showed improvement with practice. Well done. I'd give you an 'A'.
ReplyDeleteFun because I saw the link on Twitter and had NO IDEA you'd done my dare. Yippee! Will e-mail because now I get a new book!
LOL--that is HILARIOUS that you're a high school art teacher. That somehow makes it more epic. Checking my email now! (And thank you for submitting the dare--despite how embarrassing it was!)
DeleteYou're too funny Shannon. I could totally top your story (it involves older men, too, but I actually dated him and it ended in vomit. Yeah.) But since I'm not a thirteener, I guess you'll never know mwuhahaha... Also, josh Groban held my hand while he was singing once, and it was magical. No sweat. He he.
ReplyDeleteOh, but we accept guest authors, Sara. #justsayin. ;)
DeleteYou are so very brave, Shannon!! (I especially love that you still had the drawings on hand to share. Too funny!)
ReplyDeleteAww yes, I remember Gavin Rossdale. I didn't even know who he was, but you quickly changed that! : ) Great post!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! It's great that you still have the drawings. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you went to USC--when did you graduate? I graduated in 2005 and my roommate was in the film school (in Production, also graduated 2005).
LOL I'm still laughing at "Our hands actually made a squishing sound." Hahah, ew. Loved that you still have the drawings!
ReplyDeleteOh man, nothing tops some Shannon Shame, and extra points for working Mr. Rossdale in there. I totally found an old Bush album the other week and have been rocking my housework ever since... I think my dog's learning that the opening chords means it's time to hide before I start singing along.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love this. Jaye RB and I beta read for each other so how cool to see her name here too. Love the whole blog!
ReplyDeleteYou're quite the artist! Portraits are hard to do (or maybe they're only hard for me). Do you still draw?
